Drugs are bad m'kay!? - Belinda Mackenzie

Bisphosphonates/Osteoporosis and the oral implications we need to be aware of in clinical practice

Osteoporosis affects women and to a lesser degree men over a certain age. The use of bisphosphonates to strengthen and reduce bone degradation has been in practice now for 20 plus years. The emerging impact of both oral and IV bisphosphonates in view of dental hygiene in work both deep and shallow has lead to the in depth study and recommendations around bisphosphonates; especially in development of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ).

This talk aims to look at the current evidence as well as practice guidelines for everyday use in dental practice with emphasis on the importance of regular cleaning to prevent development of deep problems.

learning objectives: Recent update advice for dental treatments in view of the impacts of bisphosphonate use
